My apologies for not providing weekly updates. I have been dealing with my mom's medical issues and we have had a number of substitutes. Classes have been continuing and here's what we've been working on.
Kindergarten: We are getting ready to check out our first school library books. We have created shelfmarkers and we have learned where the community supplies (pencils, crayons, paper, etc) are located. We have heard several stories and practiced sharing parts that we liked. LETTER SENT HOME ON 10.26
Grade 1: We have been listening to books from the Everybody section (so far the A, B, & C shelves). We are learning about the call numbers in the Everybody Section.
Grade 2: We are listening to folk tales from around the world. So far we have heard one from Africa (Mabela the Clever), Asia (The Girl Who Wore Too Much), and Europe (Elves and the Shoemaker). We are looking forward to hearing stories from the other continents. We are looking at a globe to see where these continent are.
Grade 3: We have been discussing book care. Classes talked about ways to take care of books and we created bookmarks to remind us these ideas.
Grade 4: We learned about 10 different way to find a great book. Examples of each way was shared with a title. We also began learning about the Dewey Decimal System used to organize books in our classified section.
Grade 5: We are working on library rule posters so that we can share our understanding of library behavior with students in other grades.
Grade 6: We are practicing using the library catalog and making resource lists to help us in future studies this year.
Professional: I have been attending staff meetings, leadership team meetings, WLA meetings and more! I am working on my professional goals for the year as part of the teacher-evaluation system. I have been preparing books accepted through donation for cataloging, as well as, cataloging our new magazines. I am also writing reviews for the Puget Sound Council book review group. I also worked on registering our school for the Sno-Isle 3rd Grade Reading Challenge.
