Assignment #1 : Direct Quotes / Brainstorming
Assigned: 1/16/15
Due: 1/23/15
1) Collect 3-5 quotes from students, teachers, and/or parents about a topic you might be interested in for the upcoming issue. The quote should have the person's full name, grade or relationship to our school.
2) Brainstorm some article ideas that you might be interested in.

WEEK TWO (1/23/15)
Assignment #2 : Topic and quotes

1) Pick an article idea. Write it on the top of your paper with a focus question.
2) Collect 3 quotes about your article idea from 3 different people. Quotes should include the person's full name, grade or relationship to Sherwood.

WEEK THREE (2/6/15)
No Assignment
This week we met in small groups to discuss each students article idea. We talked about the Who? What? When? Where? and How? that they could write about. Students shared ideas with each other. Next week we will begin writing rough drafts of our articles.
WEEK FOUR (2/20/15)
Assignment #3: Brainstorming to Rough Draft
This week we brainstormed all of the things we'd want to include in our article so that next week we can write a rough draft. Journalist should be adding to their brainstorm and begin working on a rough draft. Next week we will be working on our rough drafts.

WEEK FIVE (2/27/15)
Assignment #4: Please type your rough draft.
This week we are typing our rough drafts and handing in what we've done (so far) to Mrs. Larson. Many of the journalists had conferences with Mrs. Larson and Mr. Sonnen.
SPECIAL NOTE: We will have a special session next Thursday, March 5. Genna Martin, photographer, for the Everett Herald will join us to help us learn about taking photos for our articles! Listen to the morning announcements for more details.

WEEK SIX (3/5/15 & 3/6/15)
Assignment #5: Take photographs for your article.
Genna Martin from the Everett Herald visited with us on Thursday. Journalists worked with Genna on taking photographs on the playground. We learned a lot about composition of pictures, light, and finding moments!
On Friday we continued to revise our drafts. Most journalists had conferences with Mrs. Larson or Mr. Sonnen. Our final session will be Friday, March 20.
