This week in the Library: January 4-8

Welcome back!  2016 is here and the library is revved up and ready to go.  Here's what was going on this week:

Primary Classes (K-3):  We read "Gaston" by Kelly DiPucchio from our Washington Children's Choice Picture Book Award nominee poster.  This story looks a two dog families: the Poodles and the Bulldog.  A mix-up occurs.  We found the differences between the families and we discussed the author's purpose in writing the story. Vocabulary words: teapot, grace, pooches, proper, oui

Grade 4: We continued our unit on digital citizenship.  We practiced creating strong passwords but creating passwords for historical figures.  Groups looked in easy biographies to find some facts about the person and then created a strong and a weak password (Mr. Gibson's class will complete the group work next week).

Grades 5 & 6:  We began looking at the Best Book List for 2016 by writing questions related to the first lines of the various books.  In groups students developed  who? what? why? when? where? and how? questions

Professional:  Helped staff adjust to our new large format display units that were installed over winter break.  Pulled books on empathy for 1st grade and books on New Years for 2nd grade.  Attended the staff meeting which was focused on questioning.  Started working on a Donor's Choose grant for the library.
